Global oil and gas update has learned from sources offshore that the Shearwater Platform operated by Shell in the Central North Sea has been shutdown overnight after a reported well incident.
Shell would not confirm details of the incident but released the following statement to global oil and gas update...
“Shell UK can confirm that production on our Shearwater platform was shutdown (2/12/16) as a precaution due to an alarm being triggered during work on a new well.
"There has been no loss of containment. The coastguard and the regulator have been informed and the situation is being closely monitored.
"Today (3/12/16) a precautionary downman will take place returning 62 non-essential personnel to Aberdeen.
"The platform remains shutdown in the meantime."
Shearwater is located in the Central North Sea approximately 140 miles East of Aberdeen.”
Shearwater is a normally manned integrated Process, Utilities and Quarters (PUQ) platform which is bridge linked to a Wellhead (WH) Platform. The Shearwater field is a high pressure, high temperature (HP/HT) reservoir.
CHC have 2 helicopters currently on route to the platform (1pm)
